- ¿Puedes decirme quién llama? (Can you tell me me who is calling?)
- ¿Quién es?  (Who is it?)
- Dígame cuál desea.  (Tell me which one you want.)
- Dígame qué desea.  (Tell me what do you want.)
- ¿Qué te gusta? (What do you like?)
- ¿Quién te gusta?  (Who do you like?)
- ¿De qué se trata esto?  (What is this about?)

Notice that "quién" can only be used when referring to people, and "cuál" can be used to ask about things and people. However, when we use "cuál" to ask for someone´s name we always follow it with the appropriate form of the verb "ser". In these situations "cuál" is the equivalent of "what":

¿Cuál es tu nombre? (What is your name?)

"Cuál" is always used when followed by de:
¿Cuál de ellos tiene cinco años? (Which one of them is five?)
¿Cuál de estas dos camisas necesitas?  (Which of these shirts do you need?)

"Cuál" is used with "éste", "´ésta", etc., but never with "esto":
¿Cuál es éste? ( Which one is this?)
¿Qué es esto? (What is this?)

*********

They have the same form as the interrogative pronouns, but they are used to express a wish to take part in a described action. Note that these pronouns are invariable and used in a positive exclamations:

-  ¡No sabes qué cosas te podría contar de mi viaje!
(You don´t know the things I could tell you about my trip!)
- ¡Qué rico!  (How delicious!)
- ¡Qué bueno es esto!  (How good this is!)
- ¡No sabes cuánto me alegro de verte!
(You don’t know how pleased I am to see you!)
