These pronouns are so named because they are used after prepositions:
- Este libro es para ti. (This book is for you.)
- Es para mí un honor invitarte a cenar. (It is an honor for me to invite you for dinner.)
- Este asiento es para usted. (This seat is for you.)
- Para nosotras es mejor así. (For us, it is better this way.)
The following table lists the prepositional pronouns in Spanish. I placed the subject pronouns on the left column to help identify them:

Note that only the forms "mí", "ti", "usted", and "ustedes" do not change with number or gender. Also, the prepositional forms "mí", "ti", and "sí", when used with the preposition "con", change to the following forms: "conmigo", "contigo", y "consigo".
- Ella viene conmigo. (She comes with me.)
- ¿Qué pasa contigo? (What is the matter with you?)
- Ellos traen su equipaje consigo. The bring their luggage with them).
"Sí" is used only when combined with a preposition:
- Él solamente piensa en sí. (He only thinks about himself.)
- ¿Qué trae consigo? (What do you bring with you?)
Remember that the forms "tú" y "yo" are always used with the following prepositions:
entre: Entre tú y yo, esto no está bien. (Between you and I, this is not right.)
excepto: Todos aprobaron el examen excepto tú y yo. (Everyone passed the test except you and I).
incluso: Todos están invitados, incluso yo. (Everyone is invited, including I.)
menos: Todos están invitados, menos tú. (Everyone is invited, except you.)
según: Según tú, todos están locos. (According to you, the world is crazy.) |
